Call Me Redneck, Call Me Country, Just Call Me

I love country music and many things that go along with it. Last night I watched the CMA awards. This is not someting I usually tune into, but I found myself watching as I multi-tasked getting kids ready for bed, reading books, and doing Kassidy's puzzles. I like most of the music, I like dancing to it (NOT line-dancing though, I do have some sanity), I like lots of western movies, and I have seen Pure Country too many times to count. I also like to ride horses, and I have even participated in a couple of cattle round-ups and have witnessed branding, castrating, and the cutting off of horns. I HAVE NOT tried Rocky Mountain Oysters, however. Oh, and I really like men dressed in nice western wear. There's just something about it that looks really nice. Now, whether they are a wife-beater at home, you could never tell, 'cause they look nice all dressed up. I think George Strait really illustrates this (not the wife-beating part).

Levi has country/western roots and was a cowboy for a long time, until he realized the freedom that lies in wearing looser pants and comfy tennis shoes. This is cowboy Levi at age 14. Back off, ladies. He's mine! (love ya, you)

Watching the show kinda took me back to my younger days when my family moved to Willy. I was 11 and it was kinda a culture shock. I had never seen so many cowboys dressed in bright brush-poppers or cowgirls dressed in purple and pink pear-butt pants (aka Rocky Mountains ). I wasn't even a country music fan, except for the good oldies my dad listened to, which are still some faves. I swore I would never buy into the western wearing lifestyle, or listen to country music, and I held on tightly to my pop/rock casette tapes (Ha, I'm old). But, when you're in a small town where none of your new friends are New Kids On The Block fans (how could they!?!) and all you see and hear is country, it was hard to not let it get me. Thus, I sometimes dressed "cowgirl" during my 7th and 8th grade years. Many of my friends had horses, and so I got to ride them many times. Our group of friends even went on a short horse-back riding trip for a friend's birthday our Freshman year. Anyway, the point of all of this, and I do have one, is that I like country music and some stuff that goes along with it, but I'm not a cowgirl. I was once a wanna-be, but now I don't wanna be, I'll settle for the music. Thanks. :)

I don't know how I missed this post before--too fun! I totally feel ya. My dad wears his cowboy hat everytime he gets the chance--when its paired with a t-shirt and jean cut offs I get a little bit embarrassed, but sometimes he looks pretty classy--sometimes ;}.
